How to stay healthy during a Pandemic
When the world is fighting such a pandemic, it is important to take care of yourself!
The world has been under a health crisis for the past year. The Novel Coronavirus took over the world in October 2019. Since then normal daily activities have become a daunting task. Fear has rules our hearts and minds. A simple handshake is a forbidden gesture, masks and sanitizers have become Holy Grail. Holidays, parties, and going to the office is a herculean task. Covid 19 has disrupted our daily living to a great extent.
As we deal with this global pandemic, we should not neglect our physical and mental health. Since the lockdown came in place, gyms and other recreational centers have been closed. This has not just become a roadblock to our over-all well-being but sitting at home has rerouted us to an unhealthy lifestyle. It is essential to take care of our overall well-being. Let us look into the small steps that we can take to lead a healthy life during a pandemic.
There are four aspects of staying healthy during this pandemic; they are:
- Eating Healthy
- Exercising
- Connecting
- Innovating
Eating Healthy
What we eat reflects on our mental and physical health. With a lot more time to spare during this pandemic, trying out home-cooked healthy food is a great option.
Water
Hydration is always great; drink lots of water. While being at home, drinking water may slip out of our minds. It is vital to time our water intake. The best way to go about it is; set an alarm on your mobile phone. One should consume 3.5 liters to 4 liters of water per day. It is best to have two glasses of warm water as soon as you wake up.
Eating fresh fruits and fresh vegetables
The bright side of the pandemic is that it gave us enough time to introspect and change our lifestyle choice with the ever conscious changing environment. This means it gives us more time to invest in cooking and gardening as well. Gardening is not only the best dietary alternative but also a great way to relax our minds and connect with nature. There is nothing better than a meal freshly picked from your backyard and prepared in your kitchen! It may sound like a lot of effort but it will promote your overall well-being. Salads, fresh juice, and veggie sauté are great options to start. While we talk about covid, safety is the key to survival. When we talk about the kitchen and cooking around the LPG cylinder, safety is the key.
Oils, sugar, and salt
Staying at home is one of those times we can hardly resist the food that is in our refrigerator. Binge-eating is the side effects of work from home set up. It adds extra unhealthy pounds to our body; this can be an issue for our over-all health (unless you are trying to gain weight). Processed foods are usually high in fats, sugar, and salt, basically everything you should look to avoid. We all find it hard to stop ourselves from binge-eating; choosing the right snack to binge on can make a huge difference. Fresh fruit cuts, seeds mix, salads, and even dark chocolate are good options to calm your craving. They are highly nutritious and will uplift your overall mood.
Beverages
Working late hours will make us reach for the extra cups of coffee that we should avoid. Caffeine can make you energetic and feel buzzed. It is not a healthy choice. Try to switch to organic options for beverages like Green tea, Tulsi tea, Licorice root tea, lavender tea, etc. they build immunity and relieve stress. They are zero-calorie drinks yet are full of nutrients and antioxidants.
Exercising
It is a known fact that all forms of exercise promote good health. With the gyms and swimming pools shut down and with us getting stuck at home, it gets really to get exercising. This environment is perfect turn into a couch potato. It is vital to stay active for the mind and body. It is a great time to join online health groups to give you that extra push to keep you working out. You can even take this opportunity to try out different forms of exercises such as Pilates, yoga, Zumba, etc. If you are someone who wants to keep active, walking is a great way to do it. If you are allowed access to the nearest walkway/park, make sure to wear a mask at all times and practice social distancing.
Connecting
A major difference in life during the pandemic is the absence of social life. It is said for a human being to stay alive it is important to have a social life. With the social distancing protocol in place, it seems nearly impossible to do so. Thanks to technology, the internet, and the social media platforms that keep us in check. It is easier for us to connect with our family and friends even during the pandemic. The concepts of online parties, dinners, and even dates are great to keep a social life going. This boosts our mental health during such a crisis.
Innovating
It is rare in this fast-paced ever-changing world to stay home for such a long period. Make the most of it! Learn something new or brush on something that you learned a while ago. The online space is booming with courses ranging from language to technical sessions. This has proved to reduce stress levels and keep you occupied.
